Its long been a rumor that Google will release a phone. Its seems that that rumor is closer to reality than ever. From what I’ve been reading, Google will release a phone shortly that will run their Android OS and be carried by T-mobile. Its supposed to rival the iphone.
Many critics say the phone will not take off due to a lack of features. The features will be limited by Android which is open source. Being open source you just don’t know what device it will run on. So developers will have to code to the lowest denominator of abilities Android provides to make their app work on all Google phones. This is one of the problems with open source.
Personally, I’m growing a little weary of Google. Seem like they are taking over the world to anyone else? If Google did take over (replace Microsoft) would that be so bad? I’ll be blogging about open source and Google as a new empire in future blogs.
For now the Google phone. I’ll have to wait and see. Not sure what it will look like yet. The price will be around $200. Not bad these days for a smart phone. Little rich for me given that my latest phone was a free upgrade. At this point its too early to tell. Have to wait for it to be released. I think it has the potential to be a threat to the iphone. However after using Google Docs, Calendar, and now Chrome I don’t know that it will be a iphone killer. To me Google has good stuff but it misses something. A quick example is Chrome. In Chrome where is a built in Google Page Rank. You can’t get a Google Page Rank using the Google Browser. Seems odd and its little things like that that could keep the Google phone from being the iphone killer.

Ok more on gas. Can’t help it its a hot topic. I have the solution.
Tap all the reserves we have. Start pumping our own oil. Should buy us enough home grown domestic non foreign oil to last 3-5 years. Knock prices back to $1/gallon. By the time it runs out we’ll have our alternate source finished whether it be hydrogen fuel cells, ethenal, etc.
$1/gallon will be a huge boost to the economy. Making the USA a financial power house like the mideast oil tycoons are now.

$4/gallon gas is good?! You must be crazy. Well that is still up for debate I suppose, however not on this topic. We need an alternate source of energy. We need it not only to end our dependence on other countries, but also for the environment. Without $4 gas no one would bother. Its going to take high gas prices to get people to consider alternatives. Its already started. People dumping their gas guzzlers for sub compacts or hybrids. People making fewer trips. The list goes on. Yes it is a pain. I don’t know anyone that its not effecting. The entire economy is run on gasoline. That is why we’re in a recession. If we find an oil alternative we’ll fix the economy.

HD-DVD or BluRay? That is the question. Well for some people it is. Which one will win - when will it be over so you know what player to get? This is as big as VHS vs Beta Max.
Actually its not. It has been going on for too long so here’s what you do. Buy a dual player. That’s right a high definition DVD player that plays both HD-DVD and BluRay discs. Then buy whatever movies you want in whatever format that movie is sold in. Boom done - consumer has nothing to worry about.

The RIAA is trying to make the case that ripping your cd’s to any other format (ie mp3) is illegal even if you legally own the cd. What they are saying is that it is a copyright infringement because you bought the cd in cd format. Any modification such as ripping is breaking copyright laws. In other words even if you own it you have to use it in the format you bought it in.
Lets break that down. The RIAA wants to increase record sales, primarily physical cd sales because that is where the most money is made. To do that they say if you want to use a portable device (and who doesn’t?) you have to buy it in a portable format(mp3). How will that increase cd sales? You’re saying if I want to use a Zune and not get fined or go to jail I need to buy it online in the format I want it in. Yeah that will make me buy more cds. The RIAA really doesn’t have a clue.
